Rivermeade Cottage, pretty Peak District cottage set in the heart of Bakewell in a quiet position. With 3 double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, the cottage oozes charm and character. Only a few minutes meander along the level river path into the heart of the popular market town. Dogs are welcome too.
There are 3 double bedrooms, finished in their own individual style:
Bedroom 1 - King size double or twin, large wardrobe and bedside tables. Room for a cot. Wet room en suite with shower- please note there is reduced head height throughout this room (shower area is 6ft high and there is a sloping ceiling throughout with a central beam being at 5ft 5in.)
Bedroom 2 - King sized fixed double, with wardrobe, chest of drawers, plus bedside tables. Room for a cot.
Bedroom 3 - (ground floor)- accessed by 2 steps down with reduced head height doorway (5ft 7) - Fixed standard 4ft 6 double, compact room with small storage cupboard. Please note at the top of these 2 steps head height is 5ft 4
The en suite wet room for bedroom 1 features a space saving sliding door, wash basin, toilet, light up mirror and shower that has a hand held attachment too. Due to the age of the property the en suite does have reduced head height with a sloping roof running the length of the room, the central beam being at 5ft 5in. This will need to be considered for guests that are taller than 6ft as this does impact accessing the shower.
Shared bathroom on the first floor, accessed from the top of the stairs and then a further step up into the room. Stunning feature wallpaper, eye catching marble effect flooring, freestanding modern bath with separate small hand held shower attachment, wash basin, toilet. Again due to the age of the property the roof does slope on one side so please do be very mindful of the ceiling height. The head height reduces to 5ft 3 above the toilet.
Please note that the stairs that lead to the first floor bedrooms are the original stairs so are steep, they are carpeted and do have a handrail but may not be suitable for guests with mobility issues.
At the back of the cottage is a well equipped, modern, galley style kitchen, with quarry tiled floor and black granite worktops. Finished to a high standard the kitchen features a built in combi oven / microwave with separate electric oven, induction hob with 4 induction plates, dishwasher, undercounter fridge, and separate under counter 3 drawer freezer. The kitchen flows to a separate area which houses more handy worktop space and storage, coffee machine, toaster and bread bin. A glass roof walkway (reduced head height at one point of 5ft 10) leads you through to the back of the house and a boot room, here you will find a washer / dryer, storage cupboards, bench seat, a perfect space to leave muddy boots or bringing the dog in after a day walking as there is a stable door that leads to the small courtyard with dog wash facilities.
The stairs to the first floor are situated in the corner of the kitchen.
As you enter the cottage and through the main hallway turn right into the dining room, that leads from the kitchen. Quarry tiles flow from the kitchen into a good sized dining room with period features including a charming built into the wall, under the window cupboard and drawers. The striking oblong table can comfortably seat 6.
From the front entrance and to the left is the cosy lounge. This room is an ideal place to settle down after a day exploring the Peaks, close the door and light the log burner in the cooler months for a warm and cosy stay. The log burner is the central focal point and the room also offers a Smart TV, two 2½ seater sofas, coffee tables and an armchair. Double glazed windows look out to the quiet square in front of the cottage. There is also free Wi Fi.
To the front of the cottage is a pretty, paved courtyard, with established seasonal planting. The area is compact but has 2 seating areas, featuring a bench on one side of the front door and a small table with chairs on the other to relax and enjoy a drink and take in this peaceful location. There is a separate, gated, courtyard with access to the house to the side of the cottage that houses dog (or boot) washing facilities (Mud Daddy with brush attachment). A stable door opens to the boot room - meaning you do not need to walk through the whole of the cottage with the dog or to leave any damp clothing. Also featuring in the courtyard is a handy wall mounted drying rack alongside the recycling bins, outside tap and hose.
Across the square is the mill race, a beautiful setting that is ideal to sit and watch the baby ducklings in late spring. A flat and short walk alongside the mill race will lead to the town centre, only a few minutes walk from the cottage where you can enjoy the numerous cafes, pubs and shops.

We liked the cottage very much - lovely homely feel and a great wood burner for cosy evenings with snow outside. Owners were very responsive to matters - lovely people.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful house. Everything was immaculate with comfortable beds and high quality bedding. The location is excellent. We had an issue with the hot water and heating at the start and the owner got back to us and resolved it straight away. I would love to come back here and would recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in Bakewell.
Had a great weekend in this modern, well equipped cottage, located centrally in Bakewell. Bathrooms are a bit quirky but all done to a high standard. Comfy beds and a cosy living room.
Absolutely loved this place, so close to the centre of Bakewell, the Thornbridge brewery and the monsal trail. Really loved our stay, would be back in a heartbeat.
Great place to stay. quiet and easy walking distance into town. Very clean, cosy cottage.
Perfect location for town centre pubs and shops and very well positioned for exploring the Dales.
The cottage is beautiful, everything is top quality and spotlessly clean. It has very comfortable beds, it’s spacious and warm. Five minutes walk along the river takes you into central Bakewell with shops and restaurants and the Monday Market. A parking permit allows parking outside the property. I can’t think of any negatives - it’s definitely the best holiday cottage we have stayed in.
Perfect stay in a great place. The cottage is centrally located so you can park the car and simply relax in Bakewell . Near to all restaurants and shops yet away from the hustle and bustle of the town. Accommodation superb . All newly refurbished and decorated to a high standard whilst accommodating the family dog . Thanks for Bakewell tart, milk and dog biscuits ! Would highly recommend Show review
We stayed with a small group of friends at this place and enjoyed all that the property and Bakewell had to offer. Would very much recommend for a fishing retreat.
My family of 5 stayed here for 6 nights in August. It is a lovely house in a beautiful part of the world, furnished to a high standard and very well equipped. It was very clean and welcoming when we arrived and we were very comfortable during our stay. Bakewell town center is a short walk, worth exploring for its interesting shops, good range of places to eat/drink and excellent for walks along the river Wye with all its (well fed) wildlife. The surrounding area of the Peak District, with all its natural beauty and active fun is all a short drive in all directions. During our stay we cycled the Monsal Trail, walked up a few hills to breathtaking views, explored Padley Gorge (twice!) and spent a day at the Chatsworth Country Fair (which fortunately was on during our stay). There was more I wanted to do but we ran out of time! Communication with Peak Venues through the app was excellent.
Absolutely lovely stay. Beautifully appointed cottage, very comfortable, with all the bits and bobs needed to feel right at home. Definitely appreciated the guidebook for the area, loaded with information about where to eat, trails to hike, and historical areas to visit. Cleverly designed too! Every space was utilized to the fullest. Looking forward to staying at this excellent cottage again!
Gorgeous cottage close to the heat of Bakewell. Lots of lovely touches like fresh flowers, beautiful accessories and fully equipped with everything you could need. Perfect for a Derbyshire getaway.
Perfect for a stay in the Peak District! Beautiful views and easy to walk into the centre of Bakewell. The cottage was lovely and recently renovated with lots of amenities. Definitely recommended staying here!
Rare to find a property that is not only in a superb location, but also offers a tastefully decorated, modern interiors where you can relax when not exploring the local delights. Highly recommend.

Bakewell is the largest town within the Peak District National Park and is a hub of activity. Market day is on a Monday and as well as a large range of stalls there is also an agricultural market which is definitely worth a look around as it offers a great insight into todays farming community. The town also hosts a craft and gift fair most weekends in the Brigade town hall. The Bakewell Old House Museum occupies one of the oldest buildings in Bakewell and dates back to 1543, it provides a fascinating glimpse into the towns past and is very interesting and informative with lots to appeal to all ages. Obviously no trip to Bakewell would be complete without sampling an original Bakewell pudding. The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop claims to have the old the original recipe and still makes the puddings by hand from this secret recipe.

With the Monsal Trail close by (access to the trail is a 30 minute walk via fields from the cottage) or you can access it via Coombs road near the centre of town it would be rude not to take the opportunity to cycle/walk along this old Midland Railway line which runs from Bakewell right up to Blackwell Mill, in Chee Dale. The trail offers 8.5 miles of traffic free and mud free cycling / walking and with the recently reopened tunnels offers one of the most spectacular leisure routes in Britain for cycling, walking and horse riding. The nearest cycle hire is at Hassop station which is great place to stop for a bite to eat, serving breakfasts, snacks and hearty meals or for a coffee and piece of home made cake! There is also a lovely little gift shop and book shop and a children’s play area.

No visit to the Peak District would be complete without visiting the fabulous Chatsworth House. At Chatsworth there is something to do for every member of the family. The Farmyard and Adventure playground is a brilliant day out for children of all ages - with animal handling, milking demonstrations and daily activities, plus a woodland adventure playground with slides, climbing nets and more! Then there is obviously the house itself, steeped with history it’s one of Britain’s greatest stately homes and has been passed down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family. The gardens are equally as impressive as the house, over 100 acres of landscaped garden sitting alongside the beautiful seasonal flowers and planting, there are giant water features and sculptures dotted around plus a maze to try and master.

This award winning brewery is just down the road from the cottage, either walk along the main road and cross the new bridge close to Aldi or for a more scenic walk just after the Fire Station turn right and walk over the pretty packhorse bridge then bear left and walk down the private road with the river on your left then meander through the new offices that are being built until you reach Thornbridge. If you are a real ale lover take a tour of this state-of-the art brewery, however, booking is needed. Enjoy a local ale or a glass of wine with a freshly made pizzas to order after a day exploring The Peaks in their wonderful Tap Room. Unwind in the laid back eclectic furnishings of sofas, chairs, church pews and rustic tables which can cater for large or small groups. Open every day and dog friendly too.

After Chatsworth, Haddon Hall is the second most popular historic house in the Peak District. Haddon Hall dates back from the 12th century and is a fine example of a fortified medieval manor house, very little has changed over the centuries in fact the most modern room in the house is the Elizabethan long gallery! As Haddon Hall provides a unique view of early English life it makes the property very popular as a film and TV location, various versions of Jane Eyre have been filmed at Hall as well as Pride and Prejudice, The Other Boleyn Girl and most recently Death come to Pemberley, however these are just a few of the Hall film and TV appearances. The Hall is open to the public, however please note that it does close for periods throughout the winter season, so please check its website for its opening times and special events.
