    Bedrooms & Bathrooms

    Bat's Belfry has a unique layout with ground floor bedrooms, giving you one large open space on the first floor of the property perfect for socialising. 

    The bedroom layout is as follows (all ground floor):

    Bedroom 1 - Twin or double bed with use of shared bathroom

    Bedroom 2 - Fixed double bed with use of shared bathroom

    Bedroom 3 - Twin or double bed with ensuite bathroom

    Cooking, Living & Dining

    Due to the alternative layout, Bat's Belfry boasts an impressive social/dining area taking advantage of the expansive views wrapping around Hurdlow Grange. The second floor of the property is a large open-plan space bursting with character that comprises of oak floors, granite worktop, original King Post trusses and exposed oak beams.

    The modern style, light cream kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering and there is plenty of crockery, glassware and pans. There is a large dining table seating up to 14 guests should you wish to hire along with another property at Hurdlow Grange. There is also a breakfast bar with stools which is ideal for those wanting company whilst they cook. 

    To the opposite end there is a lounge area complete with large sofas, a rustic coffee table perfect for group board games and a TV.

    Bat's Belfry has a patio area to the front of the property with a BBQ which is available for use from the 01st April through to 31st October. There is picnic bench seating for 6 and there is also a small lawned area.

    Communal Games Room for the whole site - includes a Table tennis Table and Table Football.

    Property Information

    Our standard arrival and departure times are:

    • ​4pm on the day of arrival
    • By 10am on the day of departure 

    Please do respect these times as they are in place to allow the housekeeping teams enough time to thoroughly clean the property before and after your stay

    • Please remove dirty and high heeled shoes on entry
    • Please do not bring any candles, tea lights or incense sticks as they are not allowed at the property
    • Please no fireworks, Chinese lanterns or drones due to nearby livestock
    • Please no smoking or vaping inside the property. Vaping will trigger the fire alarms
    • We ask that all outside socialising be brought inside after 10pm. We kindly ask that neighbours and local residents are not disturbed after this time, for more information please see our Noise and Behaviour Policy 
    • Not suitable for Hen and Stag groups
    • No glitter please as even the most eco friendly kind is impossible to remove from the soft furnishings and hard wearing floors.
    • No Karaoke machines of any type
    • Due to the risk of fire from thermal runaway the charging of electric bikes, scooters, hoverboards and similar devices are strictly prohibited inside any properties

    Hurdlow & the Surrounding Area

    Bat's Belfry is just one of the barns situated around a rural courtyard setting with four other properties collectively making up 'Hurdlow Grange'. This idyllic dwelling occupies the Derbyshire hamlet of Hurdlow which is encircled by unobstructed views of sweeping fields and the rolling hills of the Peak District. 

    From Hurdlow Grange you have great access to the popular High Peak & Tissington trails, on which you can walk or cycle to your heart's content all the way to Ashbourne. There is conveniently a cycle hire along the trail at Parsley Hay if you don't fancy bringing along your own or if you would like to try something different such as a tandem!  (Parsley Hay does shut for Winter from 01st Nov until February)

    Buxton is just a 10 minute drive from Hurdlow, here you will find ample eateries and activities for all kinds of groups and ages including GoApe! A 10 minute drive another direction you can visit the pretty market town of Bakewell where you can enjoy experiencing local produce including the Bakewell Pudding! Chatsworth is in easy reach too.

    Bat's Belfry is within easy walkable (0.8 miles) reach of our country pub The Royal Oak at Hurdlow which boasts an expansive menu of home-cooked food.  ​

    Directions to Hurdlow Grange from Buxton (approx. 15 mins):

    • From Buxton follow signs for A515 towards Ashbourne
    • Once on A515 follow for 6.8 miles (you will go past a bookstore on your right hand side about 5 minutes out of Buxton sign-posted to Longnor do not take this turning, continue along the A515 passing ‘The Duke of York’ pub on your left
    • You will come to a staggered crossroads (left to Monyash and right to Hurdlow, Crowdecote & Longnor)
    • Take a right turn towards Hurdlow, Crowdecote and Longnor and follow the road down for 0.3 miles. You will go over a bridge and The Royal Oak will be on your right hand side
    • Just after the pub there is a right hand turn down a lane that goes behind the back of the pub- take this turning
    • You will go past a sign for our campsite on your right hand side- continue forward
    • Follow the lane for 0.9 miles
    • Hurdlow Grange will be on your left hand side, drive into the carpark
    • You have arrived at Hurdlow Grange!

    Directions to Hurdlow Grange from Leek (approx. 25 mins):

    • From Leek follow signs for A53 towards Buxton
    • Once on A53 follow for approx. 5.3 miles
    • You will come to a pub on your right hand side called ‘The Winking Man’
    • Take the right turn immediately after and follow the road straight to Hurdlow for approx. 12.3 miles
    • On your journey you will go past ‘Clowes Coaches’ on your left and then an old petrol station
    • Keep following the road and you will come up into the village of Longnor
    • When you reach the cross-roads in Longnor (The Horse Shoe Inn) will be on your left and The Crewe & Harpur will be in front of you on the right) go straight over the cross-roads
    • Keep following the road and you will come into the village of Crowdecote, keep going forward up the hair-pin bends
    • Following the road you will eventually drop down a hill and there will be The Royal Oak on the corner where there is a left hand turn
    • Take the left hand turn and follow the lane for approx. 0.9 miles Hurdlow Grange will be on your left hand side, drive into the carpark
    • You have arrived at Hurdlow Grange!

    • The Royal Oak, Hurdlow –Just a stroll down the lane, our very own award winning pub offer open fires, hidden corners, local ales and of course ‘great homemade pub food’.  Booking advised.
    • The Packhorse, Crowdecote - Located at the bottom of the bank just outside Longnor. There are well kept ales which change regularly and traditional home-made pub food. It’s a lovely place to visit for the scenery – careful of the hair pin bends on the way!
    • The Bull’s Head, Monyash - A traditional pub located in the heart of Monyash, serving good pub food. Popular with families and walkers.
    • The Bull, Ashford in the Water - Traditional Robinson's small character pub serving great food in a lovely Derbyshire village with the River Wye flowing through the heart of it.
    • The Packhorse, Little Longstone - Lovely historic character features in this compact pub – promotes itself with ‘Walkers and Muddy boots welcome.’
    • The White Lion, Great Longstone - Recently refurbished gastro pub situated in the pretty village of Great Longstone.

    • The Woodyard, Bakewell - Great location by the river in Bakewell a family friendly Italian Restaurant. Serves both lunch and dinner.

    • No 6 The Square, Buxton - Relax and enjoy morning coffee, light meals or a traditional English afternoon tea in the elegant surroundings of No. 6 The Square.
    • The Old Smithy Café ,Monyash - Rustic! Famous for its breakfast featured in the Top 50 Breakfast Book in the country. Character décor, open year round – walkers and bikers welcome. Also serves lunch daily with dinner on certain days.
    •  Manifold Tea Room and Café, Longnor - Commonly known as the ‘Longnor Chippy’ and is frequented by all the locals. It serves the best fish and chips in the area which you can eat in or takeaway. Well worth a visit. Lunch and dinner served but please check the website for their seasonal opening times.
    • Hassop Station Café & Bookshop - A new family friendly cafe with outdoor covered seating and play, with a focus on food, family & fresh air. Enjoy brunch, lunch or afternoon tea on the terrace on the renown Monsal Trail or in the newly refurbished station building.

    1. The Royal Oak Pub

    As our award winning pub is only 0.8 mile stroll down the lane, it would be rude not to pop in and sample the extensive menu and try the various local beers on offer.  Reservations are recommended, please call 01298 83288.

    2. The Tissington and High Peak Trails

    With the Tissington and High Peak Trails close by you can walk for miles along these old railway lines. Both trails meet at Parsley Hay, the Tissington Trail runs along a 13 mile route from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay, while the High Peak Trail is 17.5 miles longroute from the High Peak junction near Cromford to Dowlow. Surrounded by beautiful countryside the traffic-free trail is ideal for horse riders, cyclists and walkers of all abilities. It is also suitable for wheel chairs and pushchairs along the flat sections and the trail is mainly mud free which is quite rare in the Peak District. To find the nearest access turn left out of Hurdlow Grange and walk up the lane for ½ mile and you will come to a track clearly marked on you right, follow this until you reach the beginning of  the trail on the right hand side. The nearest bike hire can be found at Parsley Hay which is 2.5 miles away and is at the junction of the High Peak and Tissington Trails.

    3. Chatsworth House and Park

    No visit to the Peak District would be complete without visiting the fabulous Chatsworth Estate. There really is something to do for every member of the family - The Farmyard and Adventure playground, the magnificent house and the gardens which are equally as impressive as the house , with the maze, the garden trails, and the famous water cascade to keep the little ones occupied.

    4. A visit to the village of Wincle

    A great day out for the family with something for everyone to enjoy. Start off with a visit to the famous Danebridge Fisheries, a great place to visit with kids, here you can fish in the well-stocked pool, catch your own supper or feed the trout (food supplied). Then a visit to the Wincle Brewery, where you can even do a one day brewing course! After a trip to the brewery why not call into the Ship Inn, just down the lane where you can sample Wincle’s fine ales in the pretty beer garden. Follow up with finally finishing the day off with a visit to Blaze Farm, a working farm that has become famous for their awarding winning Hilly Billy Ice Cream which is all made on the farm using the milk from their dairy herd. With tea rooms, nature trials and animals to pet there is something for everyone!

    5. The Spa town of Buxton

    The spa town of Buxton can really offer something for everyone; enjoy a stroll around the pretty Pavilion gardens. The kids can enjoy the playground areas or you might chose to go for a swim at the public swimming pool. The more adventurous may want to try out ‘Go Ape’ the treetop adventure course, for those without a head for heights a visit to Poole’s Cavern is fascinating, and it’s a great activity especially for kids when the weather does not cooperate for outdoor activities. For theatre lovers, seeing a show in the intimate Buxton Opera House is a must, and for the shopaholics the pretty Cavendish Arcade has a range of lovely little boutique shops. Lovers of real ale will enjoy visiting Buxton Tap House, which is Buxton’s own brewery pub serving its very own ales and bitters.

    • 2 x Travel Cots- we provide basic travel cot's that comply with BSI. Please note that due to health and safety reasons, you will need to bring cot linen and any extra padding you require over and above the lightly padded standard base that is supplied by the manufacturer.

    • Fresh linen with beds made up upon arrival
    • Fresh towels - Bath towel for each guest & hand towels in the bathrooms

    • The property is on a shared site
    • Please use the one way system- enter on the top side by Amberleigh House and depart via The Grange lower exit. 
    • Parking is to the top side of the property and please leave the parking space in front of the property free for the other cottages to use
    • Please park considerately
    • 2 x communal on-site 7kw electric charging points (minimal charges apply) one near The Grange Farmhouse detached property and the other near the small Pigsty cottage. Download the Charge Assist App (Greenflux Smart Charging). We suggest doing this before your arrival so you can set up your account in advance.
    • For reasons of both safety and property insurance, under no circumstances should you use the domestic plug sockets in the property to charge an electric vehicle. Our domestic supply in the property does not have the capacity or set up to support EV charging. Please use this link which may be helpful for nearby charging stations.


    Outdoor Space

    • BBQ- charcoal- half oil drum style which is available between the 1st April to 31st October, please supply your own charcoal and lighting equipment
    • Please do not move the garden furniture around, this is for your own safety, due to them being very heavy and also damage can easily be caused if the items are dragged


    Property Quirks

    • Due to the nature of the cottage some of the ceilings do slope and there are exposed beams
    • Our waste treatment plant is environmentally friendly but cannot cope with nappies, baby hygiene products and ladies toiletries, please dispose of these items in the bins provided in the bathrooms
    • The property offers an unique layout with the main socialising and dining space being upstairs and bedrooms on the ground floor- so please be aware of the open stairway if there are small children
    • The property is on a communal site so please be aware of the other cottages vehicles arriving and departing the site.


    Dogs

    • We allow 2 dogs on site and charge £30 per dog for the duration of their stay
    • We do ask that they are kept off all furniture and out of the bedrooms
    • Please clear any dog litter from the grounds or garden 
    • Dogs must be kept under control at all times and especially if there is livestock in the fields nearby
    • Please do not leave dogs unattended in the property or outside at any time


    Wi-Fi

    • Wi-Fi is provided free of charge, however, as the Peak District is in a beautiful rural location sometimes there may be intermittent signal which is beyond our control. We also hope you appreciate that we cannot guarantee Wi-Fi if there are technical issues in the area
