One for the thrill seekers, spend a few exhilarating hours on the Millers Dale Bridge and have a go at abseiling. It's not very often you get to jump off man-made structures so why not plan a bridge abseil whilst you're in the Peak District. Based on the famous Monsal Trail at Millers Dale Bridge you can spend a fun filled few hours with your family learning how to abseil. There is easy access from the trail, and parking at Millers Dale car park. From there its just a short walk along the trail to the site. What makes this outdoor activity so great is that anyone can have a go. You don't need any experience and it's suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. It makes for a great activity to do with your family, friends or colleagues.
Millers Dale Bridge once formed part of the old Midland railway line and spans a narrow gorge with the fast flowing River Wye running beneath. Standing at 80ft high you get to abseil directly over the central arch which means the majority of your abseil is free hanging!
What makes this particular site one of the best spots for abseiling in Derbyshire is that once you reach the ground it's just a quick direct route back up the steps to the top of the bridge again. Depending on your group size this means you are guaranteed at least 2/3 goes per person.
There are a number of fully qualified Abseiling instructors who can lead your group on this fun-filled experience. Once you have finished your abseil you have the option of taking advantage of the Monsal Trail and taking a stroll to Monsal Dale or Monsal Head, going to Hassop or Blackwell Mill for bike hire and cycle on this traffic free cycling route, or head in the other direction to the hidden gem of Chee Dale.
